Playing with external flash

External flash has turned out to be trickier than I thought it would be, so I've been playing with it to fine tune the process.

Last night, Josh, Karen, & Aiden came by to visit, and while they were here he was given a banana in the high chair. I thought, "Hey! Since he is safely contained in the high chair, I should take advantage of the situation!" and I grabbed my tripod, camera, and external flash and played for a bit. This is what came of it.

I see lots more playing in my near future, too!

I hope that you can play at something that you love today too!

  1. I so hate flash. I suppose one day I may learn to like it... but for now I'm not changing my mind. :) But I don't have (or use) overhead lights in my house, either -except in my kitchen- so there you have it!

  2. Me too, and natural light is my thing.

BUT.... I am trying to extend into portraiture, though, and since sometimes I'm going to be taking portraits in lighting that is too dim to not use flash (still ok for still life, since still life won't move and is fine with a shutter speed of 15 seconds), I have to try to figure out flash.

Landscape photos are so much easier(I say with a whine)!

  4. I'm loving your pics. Especially the ones at the Talent Show (for those of you who'd like to know what I'm talking about: http://www.ordinarylifemagic.com/2012/01/thursdays-magic.html :)
