The fish and the cats

I took a pic of the aquarium after I cleaned it.

And here is Patch and Tilly; I'm pretty sure I've never had a cat that sleeps on its back before.

Update on the aquarium.

Today, the aquarium that Steve and I set up on my birthday is now in a new stage of life: it now has nitrites.

Up to now, it has only had ammonia.

Here is the life cycle of the aquarium:

Whew. Moving & progressing right along. :)

And here is the latest picture of our aquarium:

I need to take another pic soon, because this week algae started growing! That is a step in the right direction. Then, we got a magnetic algae cleaner, and the water spots on the front of the glass are now gone! The glass has never looked cleaner.

Two of the molly babies that were born in January are still alive. The third one must have died last week; I haven't seen it since then.

So, we have 3 platies: bumblebee, two bars, and gold dust.
2 creamsicle mollies; and 2 molly babies.
3 neon tetras.
2 zebra danios
and 4 cory catfish.

All seem happy and healthy.

17" - 19"

Yesterday it snowed. And it snowed and snowed and snowed.

Sounds like the beginning of a dystopian children's book. And it felt like one, too.

It snowed all day long, and the snow accumulation was ginormous.

I started shoveling at the driveway. Then, I cut through the front yard, shoveling a path through where the grass would be. Then, I cleared off the porch & stairs, shoveled to the end of the walk, and thought about what it would be like if I lived somewhere that had actual curb, gutters, and sidewalks and was required to shovel them too. As it was, I ended my shoveling at a 15" snow dead-end.

I shoveled back through the grass, back through the driveway, to the gate leading to the side yard. I shoveled that sidewalk and the back porch, shoveled a cul-de-sac in the yard for Meg to do her business; then I tapped the snow off of the shovel, my boots, brushed off my pants and coat, came in through the side door with the shovel to be placed strategically out the driveway door for when we need to shovel our way out again... and there was another 3 inches waiting for me at that door. So, I growled, put the shovel away outside, shut the door, and continued to growl at everyone and everything for as long as my anger could be sustained... which wasn't very long, actually. It takes an enormous amount of energy to sustain that sort of out of sort anger.

Before nightfall, I took a tape measure and cellphone camera outside & measured in the high snow place and the low snow place and here are the pictures.

I'm glad that the snowfall came on President's Day when Matt was home from school and Steve was home from work... even though Steve chose to go out to AA for the noon meeting and got stuck in a snowbank on his way home... at least he was home before dark.

Today is a regularly scheduled day. Thank heavens for Clay, our across the street neighbor, who, with his 4 wheeler complete with blade for plowing, dug out our driveway for us. Otherwise, Matt and Steve would still be digging their cars out.

Drive safely. Stay warm. And enjoy the view of the "beautiful snow" (bah humbug!) from the warmth of the indoors.

Brynley Bug

Bryn came to visit last week, and I got some cute pictures of her in her "grandma's girl" shirt. ~ And, just to be clear, yes she is my girl. ♥

She is so, so sweet.

More of my favorite things...

Not really "things" but people.

Josh and Hayley brought the littles over last Monday, and I took some pictures as they colored and cut out their pictures. ♥

And yes! Grandma (Mema) does thing that she is purr-fect. ♥

How I love these kids.

Be the church

It no longer applies to me, but it always applies.
This was a facebook post that I wrote when I was hurting.

Melody
I wish that people understood how much harm they do to a person's testimony/membership in the church when they say: If you are _____ or if you believe ____ or if you do _____ , then why would you call yourself a good member of the church? Why would you belong to a church that disagrees with you?
It would be so much better if we could all realize that we are all sinners. That we all do things counter to what the church teaches. Daily. And that by saying that someone else doesn't fit the cookie cutter mold, and that action/thought thereby makes them unfit for the kingdom.... it just might be the push that the person needed, as they are sitting on the fence - clinging to it as best they can, to push them right over onto the other side.
The last time I saw it happen was over feminists wearing pants to church. It was a last hope for some, that it might reunite them somehow with the church; that their neighbors and friends could see the difference and love them anyway. Instead, it pushed many off of the edge of the fence.
I have seen it with gays in the church. We have a website inviting them to come back to the fold, telling them that we need them and want them. And then the members say such uninviting things...
In our "every member a missionary" mindset, please be aware that the best thing we can offer is love. "Charity suffereth long and is kind..."
(This message was inspired when I read a feminists blog today who has totally detached from the church. The effects of the pants hurt too much. I am sad for her. And yes, I'm saying it about the Mormon church, but if the hypocrisy fits.....)
